There is no doubt about NRIs are the prime reason for the real estate boom in India. It is tottally unbelivable that 2 bedroom flat in a normal second class town has gone to up to 40 lakes. Decent independent houses are in terms of crores in small cites. Two factors. One is foreign money and second in black money from local dadas/politicians. Also demand vs supply. The availble land is small and demand for that land is too high due to these two gropus.
I visited one of my NRI friends house in India, where he is not going to live as he is a US citizen. His parents already won two houses and they bought another house as a investment. This house in a recent development area in a small town where there is no high tech employment is avialable; In my feeling it may not worth 5 lakes; they were selling at 45 lakes. Even if anyone ready to pay 45 lakes there is no unit is avialable; everything was sold to NRIs. No resident won the houses in that area. All the dads and mos are baby sitting the houses. Renting alos not that easy. It is tottally unbelivable. I wonder why all the NRIs buying house in India and increisng the house price? The guys working here (or any part of the world) and not going to live in India, why government should allow to buy the house and increse the price? Everyone tries to do real estate bussiness there. That is the main reason for price increase.
Is is sad. All these NRIs are going to learn a very valuable lesson. Speculation is not a good strategy for investing. A lot learned that in the past few months here in USA. In a year we will be seeing the full blown post bubble correction in India. If one can rent an apartment for 15,000 why would one buy it for 50 lakhs. The interest alone on 50 lakhs is 50,000 every month. It is like buy and rent it and loose money. Instead why don't they deposit in a bank and get 50,000 every month:confused:

I think we will see a renewed activity on IV forums in 2009. I still believe visa recapture bill like HR5882 has a good chance of getting passed. It may not get passed in this congress considering how few working days are left and presidential elections in November. But in 2009 the bill should gain new momentum with new congress and new president in office.
Also, by that time EB2 dates will be again retrogressed and those impatiently waiting for their approvals today will be back to support new action items. Please don't take this as spiteful wish against EB2, I'm EB2 myself! Just that I don't think everyone who is current now will get their GC before October 2008. For once I would be overjoyed if I'm wrong on this one :)
True, once the people realize that they are close to GC they forget all tasks and move on to the other forums (R2I or USC or whatever) there are very few who actually stay on and help add this to the fact that most of the EB3-I's got fed up with the nonsense going on (most were only looking for a sounding board to voice their dismay, instead they were reminded of the caste system). So EB2's stop working because their PD is current and EBs stop because there is little hope/chance/help. We can dissect the VB as much as we want, the fact of the matter is that EB3 as a whole and EB3 (india &China) in particular are screwed big time. There is hope in the Logfren bills but the congress seems to have other 'important' issues to discuss.
We should take the campaign to a new level move from individuals to involving groups and compaines. They have more money and power to make things move. EB3 & EB2 discussions will go on for ever, we can either decide to wallow in our sorrow or do something. Lets identify groups who can help us and write to them. Each EB should talk to his/her HR and ask them to write a letter to their congressman/Senator it will have a bigger impact.

485 does mean some thing to them. But they seem to avoid that so that they can charge more interest rate.
Right now, there is huge demand for loans. So they are bringing in many artificial road blocks to increase interest rates.
H4+ I-485 pending still is a valid status. Now what rules they have regarding approving the loan to someone who is not working (because of H4 status) is something I am unaware of and not immigration related, I guess.
But if you are going to send them a copy of your I-485 application, that should mean SOMETHING in their eyes.
Do let us know how it goes. It will also be helpful to others in your situation. Good luck!

these were the kind of points I was looking for.....I will do this as my summer essay :) and share with IV when it is done.
America is definitely losing out because of prolonged Green card processing. I know of many well educated PostGraduates, Physicians who were not able to pursue their careers in Research, fellowships because they have to be stuck in one fixed position without any progress to obtain the green card. they are being denied of the opportunity to find new cures, innovations that could potentially help the humanity. true US is getting the taxes from the main H1 applicant, but what about the well educated spouses and dependants. don't they have a role in contributing to the development of the country, they are made to pay higher tuition fees and they cannot work on dependent status. Only the lucky few who were able to fille for I-485 in 2007 got their EADs, but what about the long waiting for 485 filing and EAD since 2000 and before? Even today you if you are EB3 or EB2, you cannot apply for 485 and so your family cannot get EAD and so cannot work.
Many software professional and other highly educated workers can contribute much more to the Economy like how they did in 1990s by becoming enterpreneurs, but they will not be able to do anything while on "temporary visas" as they are much more concerned about maintaining their status, extending their status every few years. many people are even hesitant to buy a house, agree a few of us have bought houses and other properties, but vast majority of us are still very hesitant to do it as we can never feel fully secure of our job. If you have the Greencard you will atleast be confident that you can find a job in the area where you buy the house.
If you look at the procedures for Drivers licenses, even though the legal workers go through rigorous security checks while obtaining visas and changing/extending status with USCIS and almost all of them are verywell educated and very responsible, you have to go through a big hassle to obtain the Drivers licences and some people are being made to wait for months even after providing all the required documentation. In some states, dependents are not given Drivers Licenses and in other states, you legal workers/students get a "special drivers license" with which there is much scope for being discriminated just on the basis of this license, and if you move to a different state, this special license is not recognized and you have to apply for a fresh license, take written test, driving test and go through all the hassles again even though you have been driving in US legally for more than 10 years.
these hard working young professionals are losing the most important phase of their lives waiting for the elusive greencard and by the time the get it they are much older and don't have the same zeal for new ideas like how they did before and end up taking care of other responsibilities including family. I can go on and on like this. after we have been through all these testing circumstances, please do not say that America has not lost anything, but the biggest losers of all are the legal immigrants.
this is a process where there are no winners, but only losers. this lengthy backlogged process is resulting in a great loss to the advancement of US and would be legal immigrants

I PRECISLY UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SS, MEDICARE VERSUS TAXES.I was just mocking at the ridiculousness of your demands. Hey, if you think that the government agencies are treating legal immigrants badly and we are being "cheated and treated like retards", may be all of us should move to a country where the laws are more flexible, aah… like India. How often have you been on a forum in your home country lobbying for injustices being rendered to citizens, none probably. Just because we are in a country where there is a small chance for a group of people like ourselves in the IV have the privilege to have our voices heard does not mean we ask for the sun. Do you think in a economy like this with high gas prices, the war, and not to mention the ailing social security system and everything else asking the government to stop taking SS tax and Medicare from non- immigrant workers is going to fly, I DON’T THINK SO. And not only that we will end up looking like a bunch of guys with outrageous demands.
So all I am saying is the issue is not SS or Medicare or entry date being the PD, but it is MORE IMMIGRANT VISA NUMBERS. I think we have lost our focus after the bill was shot down in the senate. We have just ONE demand if I am not mistaken, and I think the core team will agree with me on this and that is to ease retrogression by having more visa numbers in the pool for countries like India and China and that should be our only demand.
Although on first reading I was agreeing with the person who indicated that deducting SS and Medicare from non-immigrants does not make sense, lets look at it from another perspective... most of us would agree that more than 50 to 60% of non-immigrants or dual intent immigrants (read H1 visas for the purpose of this thread) are trying to obtain their permanent residency. Now, if the SS and Medicare are not deducted while you are on a H1B (boy, the employers would love this because as per law they have to match your deduction dollar for dollar) and you get your green card, you would be essentially starting with an empty kitty (i.e. the benefits that you would have accrued over the 9-10 years that it took you to get your GC are zero. Now, whose loss is that? I think, the better alternative would be the proposal by Sen. Kyle/Sen. Cornyn where they advocate that a temporary worker who has to go back will get the money when he leaves. If you don't and get your GC done, then the money goes into the SS/Medicare kitty and that way nobody loses.:)

A general question - Is it normal to see LUDs on the 485, approved 140, approved 765/131 a few (3) weeks after sending AC21/G28N documentation in?
I changed employers about a month ago (140 approved, 485 pending more than 180 days), and the new company filed AC21 on Nov 3. I saw a soft LUD on my 765, 131, 485, 140 yesterday (Nov 24) and another soft LUD on just my 485 today (Nov 25). I wonder if these have to do with the AC21 and G-28N updates or if it is a sign of I-140 revocation and I should expect a 485 denial soon?
Any response will be highly appreciated.

I thought if we dont get the EAD after 90 days, we can walk into the US Embassy in the city nearer to us and get the EAD on the spot(more like a driver's license).:eek:

Rather I would like to add more items to what u have listed-
1. Its wrong for EB2 filers to find/marry a us citizen. That will be unethical of them to do as they will be jumping lines. Because u would be unable to do if u would have married non-citizen..so based on GCTest's logic please dont marry us citizen or if u have marriued continue to only use you EB2 application for processing :-)
2. Also people who are now planning of using EB5 (assuming u have now saved/gather enough money). So EB2, EB3 or other people u have been saving money and are now thinking of risking ur money/career/life on EB5 filing..please dont do that...because that will be unethical.....u r doing it bcos u now have money. Per GCTest's logic u did not having money u filed ur EB2 or EB3 application so if u have money now...dont try to use it.
